Historical and Economic Overview

Da Nang City was established in 1888. Since ancient times, Da Nang has been an important seaport of Vietnam, now becoming a major economic center and the largest city in Central Vietnam. As a core city in the Central Key Economic Zone and one of Vietnam’s five centrally-governed municipalities (since 1997), Da Nang is a type-1 urban center and national-level hub, alongside Hai Phong and Can Tho. It ranks as Vietnam’s 4th largest city in terms of urbanization and socio-economic development, after Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Hai Phong.

Da Nang is a comprehensive, multi-sectoral city serving as the political-economic-social center with key roles in industry, finance, tourism, services, culture, education, healthcare, science-technology, entrepreneurship and innovation for the Central Highlands region and nationwide. It’s also a center for regional and international events.
