Hoa Binh is a mountainous province with a natural area of 4,662.53 km², accounting for 1.41% of Vietnam’s total natural area. Located in the Northwest of Vietnam, the province borders Hanoi, serving as a gateway connecting the Red River Delta, North Central, and Northwest regions.
Geographic Location
Hoa Binh is an intermediary region between the Red River Delta and the mountainous Northwest, connected through National Highway 6 (land route) and the Da River (waterway). Its location is strategically significant in the Northern region of Vietnam. Hoa Binh serves as the gateway to Hanoi, the Northwest, and the old North Central regions while connecting with the Upper Laos region (30 km from the Vietnam-Laos border). This gives Hoa Binh great potential and advantages for socio-economic development.

Administrative Units
Hoa Binh comprises 10 administrative units, including one city (Hoa Binh City) and nine districts: Cao Phong, Da Bac, Kim Boi, Lac Son, Lac Thuy, Luong Son, Mai Chau, Tan Lac, and Yen Thuy. The province has 151 commune-level administrative units, including 12 wards, 10 townships, and 129 communes.
Population
As of April 1, 2019, Hoa Binh had a population of 854,131. Among them, 35,836 people followed one of seven religions, predominantly Catholicism (27,660 people) and Buddhism (2,120 people). The province is notable as the cultural hub for the Muong ethnic group, with the Muong people predominantly residing here.

Hoa Binh Province has four hospitals, including Hoa Binh General Hospital, Hoa Binh Traditional Medicine Hospital, Hoa Binh Endocrinology Hospital, and Hoa Binh City General Hospital, along with 11 healthcare centers.
Education
Hoa Binh prioritizes vocational training and skill development to support local industries and enhance job opportunities.

- Annually, over 14,000 individuals receive vocational training. By 2020, the rate of trained workers in the province reached 56%, with 22.64% holding certificates or diplomas.

In 2020, the province ranked 30th among 63 provinces and cities in vocational training effectiveness, with a majority of enterprises satisfied with local labor quality.
