Industrial Parks in Thai Nguyen Province Attract Investment

Thai Nguyen Province was re-established on January 1, 1997, by separating Bac Thai Province into two provinces: Bac Kan and Thai Nguyen. Thai Nguyen is located in the key economic region of the North near Hanoi, making it a developing economic center in the northern region of Vietnam.

As one of the political and economic hubs of the Viet Bac region and the midland and mountainous area of Northeast Vietnam, Thai Nguyen serves as a gateway for economic and social exchanges between the midland and mountainous regions and the Red River Delta.

In recent years, Thai Nguyen has achieved breakthroughs in urban planning and development, gradually modernizing its urban areas to improve residents’ quality of life and address issues caused by climate change. The establishment of industrial parks, clusters, major projects, key works, urban upgrading initiatives, transportation systems, and new rural programs has transformed Thai Nguyen, not only in urban areas but also in rural regions. This transformation has solidified its position as a cultural-economic center in the Viet Bac region, attracting investors and tourists.

Rich Mineral Resources

Thai Nguyen is rich in diverse mineral resources, offering significant advantages for the development of metallurgy and mining industries. The province holds the second-largest coal reserves in Vietnam, with four mines totaling over 100 million tons. It is also rich in non-ferrous metals, including tin, lead, zinc, tungsten, gold, copper, nickel, and mercury. Additionally, Thai Nguyen has abundant raw materials for cement production, decorative stone manufacturing, and construction materials. The province encourages deep-processing projects for its mineral resources.

Leading in New Rural Development

Thai Nguyen leads 14 northern midland and mountainous provinces in building new rural areas and ranks fourth nationwide in industrial production value. The province consistently ensures national defense, political security, social welfare, and public order, creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development.

The province has significantly invested in socio-economic infrastructure. From 2016 to 2020, total development investment capital reached 238 trillion VND, up 18% compared to the 2011–2015 period, exceeding targets set by provincial resolutions. Transportation networks, including urban, rural, and inter-provincial systems, have been upgraded. Infrastructure for electricity, water, and irrigation meets production and consumption needs.

Development Goals by 2030

Urban and residential projects have significantly transformed urban landscapes in Thai Nguyen. The province is the first in Vietnam to adopt a resolution specifically addressing digital transformation. As of the latest rankings by the Ministry of Information and Communications, Thai Nguyen ranks 12th among 63 provinces and cities in digital transformation, with its digital government index ranking 3rd nationwide. Its readiness for network security places it in the top seven provinces rated “A” nationwide.

By 2030, Thai Nguyen aims to become a modern industrial center in the northern midland and mountainous regions and Hanoi’s metropolitan area.

Geographic Location

Thai Nguyen Province covers an area of 3,562.82 km² and is bordered by:
