Geographical Advantage

Lao Cai is a mountainous border province located between the Northeast and Northwest regions of Vietnam. It holds a strategic position at the center of the Kunming – Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong – Quang Ninh economic corridor. With a 203 km border shared with Yunnan Province (China), Lao Cai serves as an important gateway for trade between Vietnam, ASEAN countries, and Southwest China.

The province has two international border gates (Lao Cai – Hekou) and several auxiliary border gates such as Ban Vuoc, Hoa Chu Phung, Lo Co Chin, and Y Ty, creating favorable conditions for trade, logistics, and import–export activities.

Modern and Diverse Transport Infrastructure

Lao Cai is one of the few mountainous provinces in Vietnam with a comprehensive transport system, including road, railway, waterway, and air routes (under development):

Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway (264 km) directly connects to the Kunming – Hekou Expressway (China).

Hanoi – Lao Cai – Kunming International Railway handles over 1 million tons of goods annually.
